Thing 4: Social Media

Well I already have a Facebook account so I'm doing better than I thought at this "technologically advanced" thing!

Now to get to the assignment questions!

Blog Prompts:
1. Now that you have a profile on Facebook or MySpace, how will you share information about yourself to meet other students at Ai and start to build your network?
I have found that I really don't have the time in my life right now to keep up to date on my Facebook account so I haven't built up my profile. It is tough to know what I want to share because I am a very private person (even though some would be surprised to hear this). I like to share information, but there is a fine line between what is safe or healthy for others to know about you and what is not. I think at this time I will just share some personal things on a surface level.

2. Keeping in mind that employers use social networks as a recruiting tool, how will you use Facebook or MySpace to promote yourself to potential employers?
I'm not sure that this will be the case for me at this time. The line of work that I am in doesn't really call for this. I can see that if I decide to go back to school and persue a different line of work that this would be a great tool. Let them come to you as opposed to you taking everything to them.

3. How will you use Facebook or MySpace to build your professional network?
I'm not really that interested in using these methods for a professional network. It is too eay for others to make incorrect assumptions about you and if you are not there to correct it you might be set up to fail. At this time I do not plan to use Facebook to build my professional network.

4. What interests and personal details will you share with your circle?
At the most I might share big events and photos. Personal details deserve to be shared individually with others.

5. How is professional networking different from social networking?
You have to be much more careful of what you put out there. Professional networking is networking with a purpose. Social networking is much more general, the lines are more blurred.
